Short communication: Experimental factors affecting fission-track counts in apatite

چکیده
Abstract. The tools for interpreting fission-track data are evolving apace, but, even so, the outcomes cannot be better than data. Recent studies showed that track etching and observation affect confined-track length measurements. We investigated effects of grain orientation, polishing, on counts in apatite. Our findings throw light phenomena hence sample ages, whilst raising question: what as an etched surface track? This is pertinent to manual automatic designing training strategies neural networks. Counting prism faces using ? calibration age calculation assumed deal with most etching- counting-related factors. However, not unproblematic counting, other orientations unusable. results suggest a reinvestigation properties different apatite could increase range useful dating lift significant restriction provenance studies.

Cooling history and exhumation of the nepheline syenites, NW Iran: constraints from apatite fission track
Thermal history and apatite fission-track ages were determined for the Kaleybar, Razgah and Bozqush alkaline intrusions which display Eocene-Oligocene stratigraphic age. These subduction-related intrusions are located in the Alborz-Azarbaijan magmatic belt which is characterized by a Paleogene magmatic flare-up associated with extensional/transtensional tectonism. The mean of Uranium content an...

متن کاملMesozoic thermal history of the Prebetic continental margin (southern Spain): Constraints from apatite fission-track analysis
Apatite fission-track analysis was applied to Triassic and Cretaceous sediments from the South-Iberian Continental Margin to unravel its thermal history. Apatite fission-track age populations from Triassic samples indicate partial annealing and point to a maximum temperature of around 100–110 °C during their post-depositional evolution. In certain apatites from Cretaceous samples, two different...
متن کاملUplift and thermal history of the Teton Range (northwestern Wyoming) defined by apatite fission-track dating
In order to determine the pattern and timing of exhumation and uplift in the Teton Range, fission-track analysis of apatites has been applied to three sections encompassing ~ 2 km of vertical relief along the Teton escarpment. The resulting data provide new insights on the doming of the Precambrian-Cambrian unconformity and on the Teton exhumation/uplift history prior to the Miocene initiation ...
متن کاملIon-Track Annealing Kinetics in Apatite
Fission tracks in minerals, such as apatite and zircon, generated by energetic nuclear fragments that result from spontaneous fission of U, are used for determining the age and thermal history of Earth’s crust. Taken together with other techniques, the data infer rates of tectonic uplift and landscape evolution [1]. At elevated temperatures, these tracks shrink in size and fragment into section...
